Footnote on 'sanctuary':
Lit., sanctuaries. The solution to the psalmist's perplexity concerning the prosperity of the wicked was obtained in God's sanctuary. First, God's sanctuary, His habitation, is in our spirit (Eph. 2:22) and, second, it is the church (1 Tim. 3:15). Thus to go to the sanctuary of God, we need to turn to our spirit and go to the meetings of the church. Once we are in the sanctuary - in the spirit and in the church - we will have another view, a particular perception, of the situation concerning the wicked (vv. 18-20). In our spirit and in the church we receive divine revelation and obtain the explanation to all our problems.Gracehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00473974178058805252noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-19141247.post-45857596533341909932011-10-11T20:43:00.000-07:002011-10-11T20:43:40.527-07:00Quidditch!
So last week I witnessed my first Quidditch match. Yes complete with brooms and balls and what not.

Now for those of you who do not know of the Harry Potter world, Quidditch (as defined in Wikipedia) is a popular fictional sport in the fictional world of Harry Potter created by J.K.Rowling . It is described as an extremely rough, but very popular, semi-contact sport, played by wizards and witches around the world. Matches are played between two teams of seven players riding flying broomsticks, using four balls and six elevated ring-shaped goals three on each side of the Quidditch Pitch (field). The seven players consist of a seeker (who catches the golden snitch), a keeper who more or less functions as a goalie, two beaters who use wooden clubs to hit the bludgers away from their teammates, and three chasers who try to throw the quaffle ball into the three hoops. So the quaffle balls are used to score goals and each goal is worth 10 points. The game proceeds with the chasers trying to score goals, the keeper guarding the three goal hoops and the beaters hitting the bludgers at the opposing team. The game ends when the seeker catches the golden snitch which roams about the area until it is seen at which point the seekers on both teams will chase it until they catch it. Upon catching the snitch the game ends and 150 points are awarded to the team with the snitch. In most cases the team who catches the snitch ends up winning the game. I'm sure you either find this fascinating or you are completely lost as to what I'm talking about.

Now I'm sure you are wondering how does one play Quidditch if you are suppose to be playing on flying brooms? Well they do have brooms that they stick between their legs and run around throwing balls at each other. These people are quite serious about their game. I was walking about the ISU campus and happened upon a Quidditch game just beginning. Now of course I had no idea what they were doing because most of the time you don't see people running around with toy brooms in between their legs throwing balls at one another. I asked the student I was walking around with what they were doing and she said they were playing Quidditch. I have never heard of such a thing and I was highly amused that they would go so far as to invent a Quidditch game that muggles (non-wizards/witches) could play. First of all I don't think it's particularly fun without the flying aspect and second they just look a little silly trying to run around throwing balls at each other with brooms between their legs. The balls don't fly either like they would in a real game. Instead the balls are all lined up in the center of the field and when the game starts all the players, minus the seeker and the keeper, run towards them and starts throwing the balls around. Now you are wondering where is the golden snitch right? For those of you who don't know what that looks like it's a golf size golden ball with wings that flies fairly fast trying to get away from the seekers. So in the Muggle world the snitch is really a person that has a ball in a yellow sock looking like thing attached to his belt. He then proceeds to run around campus until a seeker spots him and starts chasing him. The game ends when the seeker can grab the yellow sock thing off of his belt.

You must think that this is all too incredible to be true? Or you just think that these people are just silly bordering on ridiculous. Well let me tell you that there are actual tournaments for this. Schools will compete with other schools...like Harvard and Princeton... As you can see the Harry Potter world is spilling into the college scene. You still don't believe me well I have video to prove it!

Yes these matches even made it onto the news.

My conclusion at the end of all this: these college students need GOD to come into them to be their life, enjoyment, and everything. It's really quite simple, you should try it. Just call out loud: O Lord Jesus! The End.

Now I can go back to a more normal schedule. Now I wish I could sleep for 12 hours or so and I'll be good to go.Gracehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00473974178058805252noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-19141247.post-22528935449691046252011-07-29T09:44:00.000-07:002011-07-29T09:44:52.155-07:00College Training! (part 1)So last week I went off to the distant land of Ohio for the College Training on "A Man of God" based on 1 and 2 Timothy. It was really good. I got to see some old teammates, Marvin and E.J., as well as meet quite a number of people because I was so kindly chosen to do a filming project. I had absolutely no idea what I was doing most of the time while I was filming but it's okay. I think it turned out rather well all in all. I pretty much filmed a bunch of interviews of the college students on what they enjoyed of the training. I even got one in French! Of course doing such interviews requires me to hunt down students and ask them if they are willing to be in front of a camera to talk for 3-5 minutes. I had to use my master convincing skills in order to persuade them to step in front of the camera. However it is very hard to do that when you are going up to someone whom you have never met. It being less than a year since moving out to the Midwest, I definitely don't know that many of the students but luckily my dear teammates were there to help me (I should bake them cookies in order to thank them). Not to mention that it helped my roommates for the week were from Canada so I enlisted their help to get the Montreal and Toronto students to do some interviews. It was great.

Now you might be wondering what in the world is the College Training. It is a week long excursion into the depths of Ohio (really it's just Fairborn but "Fairborn, OH" sounds less dramatic than "the depths of Ohio") where college students gather to enjoy the Lord. This year the topic was on "A Man of God" which is a particular phrase in the New Testament to describe Timothy. Why is such a phrase significant? Well if you consider that Timothy was a young person between the ages 16-25 years old, it is quite impressive that Paul the Apostle would call him a man of God. A man of God is one who partakes of God's life and thus being one with God in His life and nature and thereby expressing him. Sounds impressive no? Well this was Timothy. I find it rather encouraging that someone so young would be called a man of God which means there is hope for the rest of us! Did you know that in the Old Testament only five people were referred to as men of God? They were Moses, Samuel, Elijah, Elisha, and David. In the New Testament only one person was called a man of God, Timothy. So...don't you want to be a man of God?!

Now of course your next question would be how do you become a man of God...well young grasshopper there are some basic qualifications of a man of God and those are: (1) an exercised spirit (2) a good conscience (3) a pure heart (4) an unfeigned faith (5) a proper humanity.

So starting out with (1) an exercised spirit, first things first do you know that you have human spirit? If not then you must read 1 Thessalonians 5:23, "And may the God of peace Himself sanctify you wholly and may your spirit and soul and body be preserved complete, without blame, at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ." There you go, now you know that you have a human spirit. So what must you with you spirit? Well you know with your body you can use it to move around which you can categorize as exercise and with your soul (or in other words your psychology...your mind, emotion, will) you also use that everyday which can also be categorized as exercising it right? Therefore one concludes that your spirit should also be exercised in some way. So in John 4:24 it says, "God is Spirit and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truthfulness," which shows you why you need to use your spirit, but how do you actually use your spirit? Well a few ways are to call on the name of the Lord (O Lord Jesus!), pray at all times and in every place, hold a good conscience (meaning there are no offenses between you and God as well as between you and man), and fan into flame the indwelling gift of God (meaning don't put it out). What does this all result in? Exercising your spirit will result in you living a life of godliness, which is the a living that is the expression of God. Timothy was charged to live this way by Paul, "exercise yourself unto godliness" in 1 Timothy 4:7 so the same charge is being spoken to us today. Exercise yourself unto godliness by exercising your spirit to live Christ in your daily life. All it takes to start off is just by calling on the name of the Lord wherever you are and in whatever you are doing.

Now what does it mean to have (2) a good conscience? First of all what is the conscience and what does it do? The conscience is one of the functions of your spirit that enables man to differentiate between right and wrong, to know what God justifies and what He condemns and to represent God in ruling over us. God comes to us by touching our conscience as I'm sure many of you have experienced because it is the leading part of our spirit. So how do you obtain a good conscience and not only that but a pure conscience? A good conscience is one that is without offense and a pure conscience is one that is without any mixture. Should your conscience be tainted with offense either between you and God or between you and man then the only way to take care of it is by confessing the offense and being cleansed by the blood of the Lord. If we confess then the Lord is faithful and righteousness to forgive us our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness (1 John 1:9). Don't forget to take care of any offense you have with people! Otherwise your conscience still won't be without offense. With all that taken care of, you are able to have open communication, open fellowship with the Lord and people without any sort of barrier. This is the way to keep a good conscience and a pure conscience. All this will result in your growth in the divine life, a maintained fellowship with God and with other believers, and will safeguard your Christians faith and life.

END! Well for now anyway...I'll finish up later.Gracehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00473974178058805252noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-19141247.post-43847869363055898112011-07-17T18:19:00.000-07:002011-07-17T18:19:57.675-07:00Simply Katherine: a Christian on campus: Christians on Campus (Part 5)Simply Katherine: a Christian on campus: Christians on Campus (Part 5): "Continuing from my recent post in the Christians on Campus series, so my mom and grandma went to Austin with me. I had to take a lot of modes of transportation in order to get from California to Illinois. I used a car, a plane, a subway, and a train in order to reach my final destination. The train ride, however, was particularly interesting because it drove backwards the entire time. It started out all normal with us driving forward then I suppose we changed tracks and then we started moving backwards. We were going slow at first and moving toward Chicago Union so I was rather confused as to why we were going back then same way we came. Eventually we ended up picking up speed and sped past Union Station so we just drove backwards the entire time. Half way through the train ride, I guess there were a lot of rocks on the tracks so as we went over them they started flying everywhere. I thought that was interesting. They flew pretty high too since one came up to the height of my window. It was a bumpier ride than the last time I was on the train and we were going backwards which was interesting. It may it difficult when I was trying to figure out where I was because none of the signs faced me since we were driving backwards and the conductor didn't announce any of the stops so I just kept track of the time. All in all it was a rather interesting day of traveling.

I finally finished Deuteronomy and read half of Joshua on the train ride! Now I just need to finish the last half of Joshua and then I'll finally be caught up Judges where I'm suppose to be...almost there.

"Many things in the song of Moses are severe, but the ending is very positive. No matter how evil the children of Israel might be and no matter how much God might be provoked in His anger toward them, the result, the issue, will be good. Instead of forsaking His people, God will eventually come in to vindicate them. This is true concerning Israel and also concerning the believers in Christ."

Deut. 32:43 note 1.

"Ultimately, this book shows us that the love of God consummately works for His people they may enjoy His full blessing according His will and foreknowledge. They were all quite impressed with the corporate living houses. Before we left Irvine the sisters managed to strike up a conversation with one of the residents next to the brothers' house and she happened to be Jewish. She ended up asking what we were doing and how long we would be here (by we I mean the saints from Taiwan). So one of the sisters practicing her English said that we are here for a week long training on the book of Psalms, which seemed to peek this lady's interests. At this point she let us know that she is Jewish, which I thought was pretty cool. She said that she says psalms everyday which allowed us to speak a bit more on the book of Psalms. Common ground! She is definitely very Jewish but she was happy to speak with us on the Bible. We didn't exactly preach the gospel to her but she was very happy that we are having a training on the book of Psalms. Even for her, she realized the power behind the Psalms and she went on to describe how speaking Psalms to one another strengthens and encourages us. She didn't quite say it's because it is the word of God but that's essentially what she was trying to get at. There is no better way to honor one another by speaking the word of God to one another. As we were leaving for our next destination she ended up blessing us and our trip. The lady was nice and it was refreshing to be able to speak to her concerning Psalms.Gracehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00473974178058805252noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-19141247.post-43285657901258094442011-07-04T00:19:00.000-07:002011-07-04T00:21:06.809-07:00UCI TunnelsSo I got dragooned into taking the Taiwan saints for a tour of UCI...well not really dragooned but I somehow always get asked to give tours of schools I never attended. All in all it wasn't bad since the weather was slightly cooperative in offering a breeze. The saints were particularly intrigued by the tunnels underneath UCI. Legend has it that the tunnels were built in order for faculty members to escape student protests and for the National Guard to have an entry point.

What prompted such a building project?

Well apparently because UCI was established in the 1960s at the height of student protests, especially in Berkeley, the UC system decided that a series of tunnels would be good for faculty members who may be locked up in the building because of an angry mob of students. Now of course if you know what Irvine has developed into these days you would think such an idea is ridiculous. But UCI was built in the hippie era and you never know what may happen on a campus that could potentially go very liberal so they decided to cover all their bases. They did not want to have another Berkeley on their hands at least when it comes to student protests.

Is any of this true?

Perhaps. The tunnels are there although they have a much more practical function in that they house the cooling and heating pipes as well as the phone, electric, and data wires. The tunnels do at one point connect to the administration building so perhaps the UC system though they could kill two birds with one stone in building these tunnels: (1) for escape (2) housing their pipes and wires.

At any rate students have gone down in the tunnels to explore. They are located under Ring Road or Ring Mall. We tried to look for the entrances while walking on campus but didn't find any although we weren't looking that hard. Apparently one way to enter those tunnels is to make friends with the operators at the UCI Central Plant. All other entrances are locked but at the Central Plant if the operators are up for it they could give you a tour. Now that is something to try out one of these days as soon as I figure out where the Central Plant is. Oh what fun facts you learn about UCI.Gracehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00473974178058805252noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-19141247.post-76045201029928670392011-07-03T23:49:00.000-07:002011-07-04T00:22:06.684-07:00I went to the FTTA graduation. Being in the training the last two years has hardly afforded me the opportunity to post but now that I have up and left for Illinois it might be a good time to start posting again. I suppose it would have been good had I posted this past school year in Illinois but o well.Gracehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00473974178058805252noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-19141247.post-90894146899426292152008-07-19T23:38:00.000-07:002008-07-19T23:40:33.090-07:00

Gracehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00473974178058805252noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-19141247.post-91013481928394177832008-03-29T23:50:00.000-07:002008-03-29T23:59:49.901-07:00Spring break was fun. the King of creation!
O my soul, praise Him, for He is thy
health and salvation!
All ye who hear,
Now to His temple draw near;
Sing now in glad adoration!

Praise to the Lord, who o'er all
things so wondrously reigneth,
Who, as on wings of an eagle,
uplifteth, sustaineth.
Hast thou not seen
How thy desires all have been
Granted in what He ordaineth?

Praise to the Lord, who hath fearfully,
wondrously, made thee!
Health hath vouchsafed and, when
heedlessly falling, hath stayed thee.
What need or grief
Ever hath failed of relief?
Wings of His mercy did shade thee.

Praise to the Lord, who doth prosper
thy work and defend thee,
Who from the heavens the streams of
His mercy doth send thee.
Ponder anew
What the Almighty can do,
Who with His love doth befriend thee.

Praise to the Lord! Oh, let all that
is in me adore Him!
All that hath life and breath, come
now with praises before Him!
Let the Amen
Sound from His people again;
Gladly for aye we adore Him.Gracehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00473974178058805252noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-19141247.post-37997187011222552882008-02-24T23:51:00.000-08:002008-02-24T23:56:21.244-08:00I will not gaze at glory
But on my King of grace.

Keep me gazing on You Lord this week.Gracehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00473974178058805252noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-19141247.post-39747045443234948072008-02-13T21:08:00.000-08:002008-02-13T21:09:55.666-08:00I am so incredibly unsypathetic right now. LAME excuses...especially considering the week I have. LAME.Gracehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00473974178058805252noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-19141247.post-16789123733678371622008-02-04T16:58:00.000-08:002008-02-04T17:00:04.873-08:00The blood of the Lamb, which is for our redemption, answers before God all the accusations of the devil against us and gives us the victory over him. We not only have the redeeming blood but the prevailing, overcoming blood. We must always apply the blood, telling the devil that although we are not perfect, we are under the perfect blood. We must say, “Lord cover my conscious, thoughts, and realizations with Your prevailing blood. Your blood defeats the enemy.”

Second we overcome because of the word of our testimony. This word of our testimony declares the spiritual facts. It declares the victory of the Lord. We need to exercise our faith to declare that Jesus is Lord and that He has won the victory. We must net only believe it in our hearts but also declare it to Satan with our mouth. If we preach to Satan like this, the accurser will not dare to trouble you because you trouble him. This preaching to the enemy is the word of our testimony.

The brothers also overcome the enemy by not loving their soul-life. Due to Adam’s fall, Satan has joined himself to man’s soul-life, man’s self. When our soul-life is killed, Satan is killed also. If you are willing to lose your soul-life, Satan will have no way with you. If he bothers you, you preach to him. If he hates you, you die to him. This is the way to overcome the enemy.Gracehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00473974178058805252noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-19141247.post-47495965020913106402008-01-30T17:30:00.000-08:002008-01-30T17:35:05.371-08:00I love particle physics.

I really don't like my math prof. He's a rather jolly man, very obliging. He, being German, has some funky pronounciations of words such as for analogy normally sounds like analogon or something to that effect. Annihilation is another one where he pronouces it like anneehilation. It's not terribly far off but amusing to hear all the same.Gracehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00473974178058805252noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-19141247.post-84841309406270886352007-12-05T17:14:00.000-08:002007-12-05T17:19:23.716-08:00O Lord, our Lord, how excellent
Thy name in all the earth!
Let every people, tribe, and tongue
Proclaim its boundless worth.
Out of the mouth of little ones
Thou hast established praise,
That Thou may still Thine enemy
And swiftly end his days.

When we the universe behold,
The work of Thy great hand—
The sun, the moon, and all the stars
By lofty wisdom planned;
O what is man that Thou should'st care
That Thou should'st mindful be?
The son of man Thou visitest
In Thine economy.

O Jesus Lord, Thou art that man,
The One who joined our race,
Who put upon Himself the flesh
And took a lower place.
But now with glory Thou art crowned,
With sovereignty complete.
Now through Thy Body Thou dost rule
With all beneath Thy feet.

Thine incarnation, rising too,
And Thy transcendency,
Thy Lordship, Headship, kingdom full,
And Body here we see.
By all these steps of work divine
Thou hast established praise.
With overflowing hearts to Thee
Our joyful voice we raise.

Oh, soon that blessed day shall come—
All tongues these words shall peal!
But in the local churches now
We have a foretaste real.
O Lord, our Lord, how excellent
Thy name in all the earth!
Let every people, tribe, and tongue
Proclaim its boundless worth.Gracehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00473974178058805252noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-19141247.post-6044806355951510892007-11-29T13:43:00.001-08:002007-11-29T13:44:54.230-08:00Samturtle Isaac Hsu.
